Meet who was saved in 2018
December
Rescued: Raseel, female dog
Organization: Canine Companion Rescue Center, Clarkston
Grant Amount: $100
Rescued from: Gladwin Animal Control
Story: My name is Raseel and I ended up in animal control after my owners
were not taking proper care of all the animal in the home. I had an eye issue
that went unaddressed and it has been very painful for me for a long time. I am
so grateful that CCRC was able to get me everything I needed to make me feel
better with the help of the Kroon Grant. Teamwork really makes a difference. I
can not wait until I am healthy enough to go to my waiting family.
Outcome: Awaiting adoption
Rescued: Goovie, female dog
Organization: Canine Companion Rescue Center, Clarkston
Grant Amount: $100
Rescued from: Gladwin Animal Control
Story: My name is Goovie. I am an 8 year old girl that found my way to animal
control with my brother. Luckily, the shelter reached out to CCRC knowing that a
shelter is no place for an older girl like me and they came and picked us up. It
was so nice to have a nice long bath, a good meal and a warm bed. I am still
waiting for a family to call my very own though!
Outcome: Awaiting adoption
Rescued: Sweet Pea, female dog
Organization: Furever Tails Animal Rescue, Oakland, www.furevertails.com
Grant Amount: $100
Rescued from: Macomb County Animal Control
Story: Sweet Pea was from a hoarding situation and was very under socialized and fearful. She was also pregnant. Her lack of socialization made her very fearful and seemingly aggressive initially. Much of that was attributed to her influx of pregnancy hormones but with patience and a lot of love we were able to gain her trust before she delivered.
Outcome: Adopted
Rescued: Pickles, female dog
Organization: Furever Tails Animal Rescue, Oakland, www.furevertails.com
Grant Amount: $100
Rescued from: Macomb County Animal Control
Story: Pickles was brought into the shelter after she was abandoned in an empty home. The owners never came for her. An x-ray was performed and they found that she was pregnant and eventually had 7 puppies. While in foster care the foster noticed that she also had 2 growths in her mouth and a skin tag on her eye lid. She underwent surgery to have the growths in her mouth removed and the skin tag removed from her eye, while under anesthesia for her spay surgery. The tissue was then sent out for biopsy to rule out cancer.
Outcome: Adopted
Rescued: Laurel, female cat
Organization: Shelter to Home, Wyandotte
Grant Amount: $200
Rescued from: City of Wyandotte Animal Adoption Center
Story: Laurel was picked up as a stray and dropped off at the shelter. She was found to be approximately 1 month pregnant and had a severe upper respiratory infection. She required antibiotics, fluid support and force feeding to maintain her health during pregnancy. During labor, she did not have enough strength to deliver 7 kittens. The last kitten was delivered by emergency C Section. Following C-Section surgery, she developed internal bleeding and had to be taken back to emergency exploratory surgery to stop the bleeding. She had lost so much blood, that she required a transfusion the following morning. Following the transfusion, she developed a high fever and complications with her large incision and nursing kittens. She did recover after excellent care at Affiliated Veterinary Emergency and is now healthy. Five of her kittens survived.
Outcome: ??Adopted?? (No longer available for adoption.)
Rescued: Darwin, male cat
Organization: Shelter to Home, Wyandotte
Grant Amount: $200
Rescued from: Macomb County Animal Control
Story: Darwin is diabetic and currently requires insulin. He had two mast cell tumors that needed to be removed but it wasn’t safe to do surgery until we got him regulated. There was a brief time when he was not considered to be diabetic and our vet felt it was safe to operate. Biopsy of the tumors came back with clean margins and were benign. Darwin is back on insulin and gets 2 shots a day. He is a wonderful, loving cat and deserves a chance at finding a forever home with someone whose schedule makes it easy to give him his insulin.

Story: Esther Faye is a senior citizen, approximately 11 years old. She will delight you with her “old lady” voice. She is front-paw declawed. She loves to sit with her head pressed against yours for as long as you will let her! Sadly, Esther does not appear to have been well cared-for in her previous life. It is possible that she was left with untreated diarrhea for many years. But with care and treatment, she is now feeling great and raring to start the second half of her life! She takes a 1/4 of a blood pressure pill daily, at a cost of approximately $25 for a two month supply.

I have a laid back, mellow personality. I like to sit on the couch and watch TV with my foster mom. I love being petted and cuddled. I just have such a sweet, loving character. Story: 2-year-old Pluto was designated as “Rescue Only” because he exhibited lameness in the shelter and was found to have a dislocated hip that would require surgery. It was later found that he had an inoperable fracture in the opposite hind leg that also contributed to his lameness. Several evaluations were performed. It was decided that a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery to repair the dislocated hip would be performed first, leaving the other hind leg for stability while the FHO healed. At his evaluation after the FHO had healed, it was found that the fractured leg was not causing extreme pain, but that he would likely need it amputated in the future due to arthritis. Zeus
Rescued: Zeus, male dog
Organization: Shelter to Home, Wyandotte sheltertohome.com
Grant Amount Awarded: $200
Rescued from: River Rouge Animal Control
Story: Zeus had entropian and required a veterinary eye specialist to determine the course of treatment. Entropion is an abnormality of the eyelids in which the eyelid “rolls” inward. This inward rolling often causes the hair on the surface of the eyelid to rub against the cornea (outer part of the eyeball) resulting in pain, corneal ulcers or corneal erosions. He wore contact lenses for a while so the ulcerss on his eyes could heal prior to having surgery to correct his condition. He also had horrible ear infections and we thought he might need to have his ear canals removed. He responded well to antibiotics and steroids and is currently on a food trial to see if we can solve his allergy problems.
Outcome: Zeus’s adoption info is here.

Charlie seems to have never had any training. He’s very sweet but he’s a little bit like a bull in a china shop when he runs around the house. We also hope to see how he reacts around other dogs to help his foster mom know what kind of home he would be best for. He currently lives with a cat and seems to be afraid of it.
