How does Spay/Neuter fit into a "no-kill" program

Neutering or sterilizing companion animals and feral cats is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT program that can be undertaken to stop overpopulation and euthanasia. In addition to stopping overpopulation there are health benefits and often behavior benefits to neutering companion animals.

Since it is currently impossible to find homes for all the homeless animals, we must prevent the unwanted and unexpected births. It is absolutely safe to spay/neuter cats and dogs which are 8 weeks of age and 2 lbs.

This section of the website provides resources for spay/neuter. There is a listing for individual companion animal guardians of programs and locations which provide low-cost spay/neuter services. Some of these are limited to low-income individuals and some are not. You will find some of the “best” spay/neuter surgeons at some of these clinics. There are several articles which describe the health benefits and identify the myths of the procedure. Finally, for shelters and non-profit organizations, there is a section identifying sources of funding to help fund spay/neuter programs.
