History and Purpose:
Michigan Pet Fund Alliance was originally established as Oakland Pet Fund in November of 2003.  The organization operated for five years with the goal of eliminating euthanasia of adoptable and treatable homeless companion animals in Oakland County by 2010.  The approach follows a nationally recognized movement to create a humane response to the problem of companion animal over-population, solutions to employ business strategies and models, and collaboration and cooperation among the business, government, nonprofit communities and concerned citizens.  As successful programs were advanced in Oakland County, the Pet Fund was approached for their expertise and resources by organizations outside Oakland County for assistance.  In 2008, Oakland Pet Fund became the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance to represent its expansion efforts throughout the state.
